River Tees North
Parking and Access
From the A67 in Barnard Castle at the Butter Mart (Market Cross) follow the minor road signposted Bowes Museum/ Whorlton. Continue past the Bowes Museum towards Whorlton and once past the hamlet of Westwick look out for power lines crossing the road. Turn off through the adjacent field gate (signposted 'No Access to River'). At the next field gate pass straight on into a field that is normally a holding field for ewes and lambs in spring and early summer. At the next field boundary take the right hand gate into an arable crop field, keeping to the track. At the next gate pass straight through and follow the track down to the car pen close to the river. Do not attempt to take a shortcut as there are a number of pits in the field. This is the middle of the beat. From here proceed on foot either upstream or downstream. In wet conditions vehicles should be parked on the main road. Access is only possible in a four wheel drive in wet weather.
Fishing tips
A long rod is useful on the wider stretches. Wading stick is essential due to the rocky river bed.
River Tees South
Parking and Access
Park at Abbey Bridge in the lay-by west of the bridge, Eggleston Abbey car park or the lay-by between Abbey Bridge and Rokeby Park and follow the footpath.
Fishing tips
Wading is possible on the downstream section but further up there are some very deep pools.
Mill Beat

Park either at the lay-by at Rutherford Bridge which is the upstream western limit of the beat, or at Brignall Mill which is the downstream eastern limit. Access here is via the farm at the southern end of Moorhouse Lane. Park in the field beside the cattle grid and fishing starts at Brignall Scar upstream of Brignall Mill Cottage.
